SUSTAINABILITY

DID YOU KNOW?

The fashion industry contributes to around 10% of the worlds carbon emissions, this is more than international flights and maritime combined.

A few interesting facts about fast fashion and plastic:

  • the equivalent of 1 garbage truck full of clothes is burned or dumped in a landfill every second
  • the fashion industry is the second largest consumer of the worlds water supply
  • washing clothes releases 500 000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year - the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles and many of those fibers are polyester, a plastic found in an estimated 60% of garments.
  • Producing polyester releases 2 to 3 times more carbon emissions than cotton. Polyester does not break down in the ocean
  • 73% of beach litter around the world is plastic
  • plastic is killing more than 1.1 million seabirds and animals each year

And then there is the ethical issues of the fast fashion industry such as poor working conditions, child labour, low wages, animal cruelty and so much more.

This is the reality as shocking as it may sound, and this is why LVZ is trying to be a part of the solution and create a greater, more sustainable fashion industry.

HOW LVZ IS CONTRIBUTING:

At LVZ we source and produce all trims, fabrics and packaging ethically and responsibly to make the most sustainable brand we can offer.

We mostly do made to order or very small batches to ensure there is no excess garments going to landfills. We also keep all off-cuts from our range and recycle them for uses such as cloths, pillow stuffings or patchwork designs.

We use GOTS Certified fabric. What is GOTS? This is when fabric has been approved by the GLOBAL ORGANIC TEXTILE STANDARD. This German standard is one of the most difficult to obtain and reviews the status of textiles. From harvesting of raw materials to environmental and socially responsible manufacturing to the labels at the end. This worldwide recognition will help you make a sustainable and credible choice.

Our plantable hang tags, gives you a great opportunity to contribute to our beautiful eco system. Grow fresh herbs with a hang tags, leaving you a zero waste experience.
